How Betting Odds Work

One number tells you three things: the payout, the probability and the bookmaker's opinion. Here is how to read it.

Decimal odds in one line

Return = stake × odds. Back a team at 1.85 with 100 coins: win and you get 185 back (85 profit); lose and the stake is gone. That is the whole system — everything else is interpretation.

Odds to probability, instantly

Implied probability ≈ 1 ÷ odds. Handy anchors:

The margin — why probabilities add past 100%

Add up 1÷odds across all outcomes of any market and you will get roughly 106.5% on ProFair. That extra ~6.5% is the bookmaker margin — the platform's edge built into every price. Sharper bettors always know it is there: an odds-implied 62% is really a bit less once the margin is stripped out.

Frequently asked questions

Are higher odds always worse bets?

No — odds only state probability. A 4.00 outsider priced like a 25% chance is a good bet if you believe its true chance is 30%.

Why did my potential win show before I confirmed?

The bet slip multiplies stake × odds live, so you always see the exact return before committing.

Do winnings arrive automatically?

Yes — the moment a match finishes, bets are graded and winning payouts are credited to your wallet.
